Spire Records is a Hampshire based recording company run by sound engineer, musician and composer, Matt Watkins. Matt has gained extensive experience in studio and location recording working with many well known recording artists as well as scores of Choirs, Brass Bands, Orchestras, Jazz ensembles, Folk and School ensembles all over the UK. Matt was for many years resident engineer with the renowned choral record label, Black Mountain Records, for which he recorded several 1000 voice concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. He has also worked on many other projects in many studios such as: recording songs for Aled Jones including the RCA single “Morning Has Broken”, assisting on Aled’s albums: “Pie Jesu”, “Aled Music from the TV Series”. “An Album of Hymns” and the album: “Sailing”. Matt also engineered an album for Stuart Burrows performing with Radio 2 Choir of the Year winners - The Nelson Arion Glee Union Male Voice Choir and carried out agency Recordings for the Welsh National Opera. Other previous clients and artists include: Country Legend: George Hamilton IV, Chart Toppers: Dana, and Charlene, Folk Star: Sally Barker, American Harmonica Virtuoso: Richard Hunter, the BBC, HTV and Mercer Productions for S4C TV. The principle aim of Spire Records is to give choirs, and other light/classical ensembles whether amateur or professional, high end recording, mixing, editing and mastering facilities and expertise that they may not have otherwise been able to access at an affordable rate. So no laptops, or old mini disc machines with a couple of mics, but up to 24 track digital recording made to dedicated recorders with some of the best mics, converters, monitors and audio processors available.
