Matt Harper, walks the tightrope between American folk and country, with songs that tell tales of moonshine, miners and the company store, railroads and outlaws. Matt performs original songs, traditional songs and songs by writers such as Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Michelle Shocked, John Prine, Townes van Zandt and Neil Young to name a few.
Originally from Oxford but brought up between the UK, California and Long Island New York, Matt, presently lives in Abergavenny in Monmouthshire. Over the years Matt has shared the stage with Richard Digance, Harvey Andrews, Chris Smithers, Dave Swarbrick, Jake Thackray; appeared at the Brecon Jazz festival, BBC Radio and has toured in Germany.
Matt also works as a sound engineer and has worked with artists such as Aled Jones, Charlene, George Hamilton IV, Richard Digance, Sally Barker, Dana, Mal Pope and composer David Lowe.
Matt had two songs included in the Gumboot Pictures film; “Small Town Folk” and has written instrumental music for a satellite TV project.
Matt’s new CD “Nothing Is Ever Lost” was recorded at his own studio and will be available soon.
